The 0Maths blogAutistic Spectrum Disorders
Pupils with ASD can be exceptional at maths. However the range of abilities is broad. We do what we can to nurture them in a subject that they may have an affinity with:
- Our overall anxiety and adrenaline-lowering approach is particularly suitable for ASD learners. Their response to adrenaline is more extreme, they are more likely to be triggered, and adrenaline persists longer in their bodies.
- We present problems visually where practicable, at least at lower difficulty levels and we don't have background games to compete for visual attention.
-
Skills are broken down, step by step:
- We tie new concepts back to topics they are familiar with - no surprises:

- We can wind down the colour scheme further to reduce distraction

- Definitions remain available.
- And finally we reduce stress further with what we don't do:
- No timers.
- No peer to peer competitions.
- No league tables. Learning is an individual journey.
Check out how we can help with that ADD / ADHD, as this often co-occurs with ASD.
